Diet counseling is now available to chronic hypertensive and critically diabetic individuals to help them with their diet. Those that join attend weekly sessions that are educational and participatory for 6 weeks. Each session is led by a dietician who teaches. Patients are given a financial incentive at the end of each session as a way of rewarding them while keeping them engaged in returning to the lessons.
Patients at the Mercy Clinic and the general public who are food insecure can use the clinic's food pantry. The food pantry stocks fresh produce as well as long-lasting items like canned and dry foods. Patients are also given food vouchers to help them buy nutritious foods. This pantry's mission is to provide healthy food to people while encouraging them to improve their diet and overall health.
